TULSA, OK -- A 37-year-old man who was shot several times by a Tulsa police officer has died.
Steven Crowels died Tuesday afternoon at St. John's Hospital, according to a release from the Tulsa Police Department.
Crowels was shot on October 15. Tulsa Police say the incident started when officer Jay Chiarito-Mazzarella noticed a driver throwing something out of his car window in the 1200 block of North Allegheny.
When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver took off.
Police say Crowels eventually drove into a neighborhood, lost control and crashed into a parked pick-up truck at East Oklahoma and North Urbana Avenue.
"As the officer gets out of the vehicle, commanding the occupants to show them their hands, the driver puts the vehicle in reverse, attempts to back into the officer, officer fires several shots inside the vehicle," said Tulsa Police officer Leland Ashley said in a previous interview.
Crowels was shot several times.
