Tulsa Chamber: Be Informed About Charter Changes

TULSA, OK -- Tulsans head to the polls next month to choose a new mayor and, in some parts of town, a new councilor.

But also on the ballot are three proposed changes to the city charter.

The first would require the city auditor to either be a certified public accountant or certified internal auditor.

The second would stagger city councilor terms and lengthen them to three years. The third change to the city charter would require the mayor and the council to agree on settlements of $1 million or larger.

Today the Metro Chamber of Commerce held a news conference to make people aware of the propositions.

"One we think is solid and very strong, two we have some real issues with," said Mike Neal, Tulsa Metro Chamber President.

"And so we are asking the voters to look carefully at each of these, educate themselves, so that when they go to the polls on November 10, they can make an informed decision.
