TULSA, OK -- The Better Business Bureau estimates one-million people a year have their identity stolen.

Scores of people are cutting the chance they'll become a victim of identity theft -- literally.

More than a 150 people participated in Shred Fest Saturday. They dropped off all sorts of personal documents and Shredders Inc. shredded it for free.

For some, it's more than just putting their mind at ease, it's reclaiming space in their home.

"So far today we've had people come in with 15 years of canceled checks, things they've always had around, just didn't know what to do with," said Rick Brinkley, Better Business Bureau.

During the two hour event, they shredded more than five tons of documents. That brings the total over the past five years to 60 tons.

The Better Business Bureau, Shredders Inc. and The News on 6 teamed up for the event.
