Ford Motor Company Expands Recall Because Of Switch

Ford is recalling about 4.5 million U.S. vehicles including the popular Windstar and Explorer models, due to problems with cruise control switches.

UNDATED -- Ford is recalling all remaining vehicles - about 4.5 million U.S. vehicles - equipped with Texas Instruments cruise control deactivation switches.

The popular Windstar vans, Explorers and diesel Excursions are among the brands being recalled.

"While the data show the majority of the vehicles being recalled do not pose a significant safety risk, we are recalling the vehicles to reassure customers and eliminate any future concerns," the motor company announced on its web site.

"This recall affects older models, including discontinued vehicles. The majority is greater than 10 model years old, with some up to 18 model years old."

Recalled vehicles: Econoline, 1992-2003; Excursion diesel, 2000-03; Explorer Mountaineer, 1995-2002, F-Series Super Duty diesel 1993-97 and 1999-2003; F53 Motorhome, 1994; Ranger, 1995-97, 2001-03; Windstar 1995-2003.
