Sonic Hopes To Turn Limeades Into Money For Teachers

TULSA, OK -- Sonic is hoping to turn it's limeades into money for teachers.

The drive-in made stops at Union High School and Grove Elementary in Tulsa to kick off their new Limeades for Learning program.

When consumers visit Sonic and purchase a small through Route 44 sized fountain or frozen drink, they will receive a code to vote online for their favorite public school teacher project.

Each week for five weeks, Sonic will grant $100,000 to teacher projects receiving the most votes for the week, up to a total of $500,000.

Sonic teamed up with the Schusterman Family Foundation to kick off the program with a $541 gift for Union teacher Cindy Johnson for her "It's time for Trig" game program.

"I've realized over the past 15 years that my students like to play games rather than do worksheets or work out the book. When they play a game, they work harder and smarter because they like to win," said Cindy Johnson, Union High School trigonometry teacher.

There are 319 projects in Oklahoma that are in the running for the weekly awards.
