TULSA, OK -- Tulsa County Commissioner chairman Fred Perry and Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz have announced that the Sheriff's Office will provide law enforcement personnel during this year's Tulsa State Fair.

"Even though we believe annexing the fairgrounds obligated the City of Tulsa to provide on site law enforcement at the fair, either by providing on site police officers or contracting with the Sheriff and the use of his deputies, since the Mayor refused to provide it, the Sheriff's Office will be paid to provide this important service. We will try to get reimbursement after the fact," said Tulsa Co. Commissioner Fred Perry.

Earlier this month, the Tulsa County fair board had asked the city of Tulsa to take over the security job this year, but the city turned them down, unless the county paid for it at an estimated cost of $300,000.

"Our standard for the fair will always be to provide an environment that is safe, clean, friendly, and fun. The Sheriff's Office has always done an outstanding job in making our Fair safe and secure. The 2009 Tulsa State Fair will be no different," said Expo Square CEO Mark Andrus.

The state fair starts October 1.
