Some local kids are graduating before the new school year even starts. More than 100 kids graduated today from Tulsa's John 3:16 Mission Summer Literacy Program.
The two-month long program helps low-income children improve their reading skills and have fun at the same time.
"The kids that may have fallen behind in school, that they get an opportunity to in the summer time to make productive use of that off time and still have fun," said Steven Whitaker of John 3:16 Mission. "So it's a camp setting, but they're having a good time."
Each child that graduated received a certificate along with a back-pack full of brand new school supplies.
