SAND SPRINGS, OK -- Residents of Sand Springs got active Sunday while paying tribute to some fallen cyclists. It was all part of the city's third annual Criterium Bicycle Race through the streets of downtown Sand Springs.

The event includes bicycling teams from all over the United States. The city says the race helps promote its bike-friendly community image while encouraging a healthy life style.

The race is usually sponsored by the Bicycles of Tulsa Team, but the BOT team was recently stricken by a deadly accident that killed two of its avid riders and injured another. Riders Christa Voss and Matthew Edmonds were killed, and rider John Moore injured.

According to Sand Springs Chamber President J.C. Kinder, Moore is one of the cyclists responsible for establishing the race three years ago.

In honor of that deadly crash, the proceeds from this year's race will be donated to the families of the victims.
