Child Dies After Near Drowning At Camp

WYANDOTTE, OK -- An Ottawa County boy, revived after a near-drowning on Wednesday, has died. 

The boy, 7-year-old Kenneth Barnett, was attending a camp at the Sycamore Valley Recreational area near Wyandotte with a Miami children's summer program.

The boy died Thursday morning at a Tulsa hospital.

"In 36 years I have never had a drowning, said Virgil Crowder, campground owner. "I've had thousands of kids come here and swim."

Crowder said although he was not at the scene, it is believed the child was in waist-deep water and the incident occurred before noon on Wednesday.
