BIXBY, OK -- When Maris Blanchard saw the duct tape prom dresses people were making for the 'Stuck at Prom' Scholarship Contest she was stuck on the idea.
"That is so creative, that is really neat, I want to do that," she said, "came up with the idea, designed it and everything, showed it to my friends and family, they said 'wow that's great, is she really going to be able to pull it off?'"
Her gown was modeled after the Queen of Hearts dress in Alice in Wonderland, and was a huge undertaking.
"It took us over 80 hours of work, over 160 feet of duct tape, were put into it, just layers upon layers."
Her brother was inspired enough to make a tuxedo and go as the Mad Hatter. They sent in pictures of the entry to the sponsors of the scholarship contest, Duck Brand Duct Tape, and just this week she received a phone call from them.
"She said we were in the top ten out of over 300 entries, and whoever gets the most votes wins," said Maris. "It's $3000 for each, so that's $6000 total for the couple, and our school also gets $3000."
And what will this ‘Queen of Hearts' do with her winnings?
"Probably towards an art school or wherever I decide to go."
Voting is open through July 2nd. To help Maris win, vote for entry #87 here.
