McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities say a man was killed when his van collided with a freight train near U.S. 69 in Pittsburg County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident occurred about 2:20 p.m. Monday south of McAlester.
The patrol says the man, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was driving east on a gravel road and tried to cross the railroad tracks when his vehicle was struck by the train.
The man sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
OHP troopers say he wasn't wearing a seat belt.
