TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa police officer is in the hospital with injuries suffered in a two-car crash Saturday night.
The crash happened at about 10:45 p.m. in the intersection of 51st and Garnett while the officer was responding to an accident at 51st and Mingo.
Sergeant Mark Watson of the Tulsa Police Department said the officer was traveling westbound on 51st street, while a red truck was going northbound on Garnett.
"The police car and the truck hit in a t-bone action inside the intersection. It spun the police car around and the officer was trapped inside until they got him out with the Jaws of Life," Sergeant Watson said.
The crash is under investigation.
"It appears that the truck going northbound had a green light at this point, but we're still doing the investigation and trying to figure out exactly what happened," Sergeant Watson said.
The officer was injured in the crash. His condition is unknown at this time.
"The officer was trying to get to the scene of a crash and provide assistance to someone who was injured. The unfortunate thing is on the way there, he was involved in an injury crash himself," said Sergeant Watson. "It is an unfortunate incident and we're sorry that it happened. Sometimes stuff like this does happen."
