RAMONA, OK -- The driver of a vehicle that struck a school bus on U.S. Highway 75 in heavy fog Thursday morning has died.
The accident happened in Washington County shortly before 7 a.m. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Caney Valley school bus was crossing Highway 75 at County Coad 4000, when a northbound car struck the bus.
According to the report from the Highway Patrol, the crash killed the driver of that northbound vehicle and the O.H.P. has identified him as Kevin Schexnayder, 42, of Owasso.
The report says two students on the bus, a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, were treated and released, one at a hospital in Bartlesville, the other at a hospital in Tulsa.
According to the report, the driver of the bus, Louis Foster, 55, had stopped at a stop sign on County Road 4000, then started to cross the highway.
Troopers say he was halfway across when he spotted the 2008 Chevy Malibu driven by Schexnayder coming out of the fog toward the bus.
The troopers say he tried to get the bus out of the way of the car, while Schexnayder swerved to the right to try to miss the bus.
According to the report, the Malibu hit the back end of the bus, causing the bus to make a 1/4 turn and knocking the Chevy into a ditch.
The report says the drivers of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
Emergency crews took Schexnayder to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa where he was pronounced dead.
