PRYOR, OK -- A Mayes County man was killed after his home burst into flames.
The body of 39-year-old Michael Cobb was found inside the rubble of his rural Mayes County home late Tuesday night.
Witnesses told investigators they heard an explosion, and when firefighters arrived, the house was already a total loss.
The Osage Fire Department responded and later discovered they had lost one of their own.
Cobb was a long-time volunteer firefighter with Osage and a foreman at National Gypsum in nearby Pryor.
Family members did not want to go on camera, but say Cobb was a devout family man who enjoyed coaching his daughter's softball team.
He was also an avid bowler and had recently gotten into the deer business, raising them on his property.
Cobb is survived by his wife, three children and two step-children. None of them were home at the time of the fire.
The state Fire Marshall's Office and The Mayes County Sheriff's Office are assisting with the investigation. Both say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
