SAND SPRINGS, OK -- A 66-year-old Sand Springs man died at a Tulsa hospital after a house fire early Thursday morning.

Three people were inside the home when the fire started.

A woman was able to make it outside safely.

A second person, a man in his late 30s got out, but suffered some burns when he tried to go back inside for the man who was trapped in the home.

The 66-year-old man had to be rescued by firefighters. A family member identified him as John Phillip Walkenbach Jr.

Deputy Chief Mike Wood says the victim was on oxygen at the time he was rescued and fire officials don't know whether it may contributed to the fire.

The home had several smoke detectors, but the residents told firefighters they never heard them. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
