NORMAN, OK -- A clemency recommendation for the man convicted of murdering an 8-year-old boy 12 years ago has many people in Cleveland County upset.
Among them, a former criminal investigator on the case.
Donald Gilson is scheduled to be executed next month in McAlester for the murder of Shane Coffman.
Former Cleveland County Sheriff's deputy Cliff Winkler first found the boy's body, buried inside a freezer. It's something he'll never forget.
"I wake up at night. I have nightmares, seeing these children's' wounds that they had on them. I still see Shane's body in the dirt pile. It gets awful hard to live with. But I have to live with it every day," said Cliff Winkler.
Governor Brad Henry hasn't decided whether he'll grant clemency or allow the May 5 execution to proceed.
