Fewer State Children Abused Last Year

The number of Oklahoma children abused last year was the lowest in nine years, according to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The number of Oklahoma children abused last year was the lowest in nine years, according to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Still, more than 11,000 children were victims of abuse or neglect in 2008. Nearly 4,000 of those were in Tulsa County.

Most of the children abused were under the age of 6, and the most common form of injury was bruises and welts.

More mothers were abusers than any other category.
