JENKS, OK -- There are tons of analogies to team basketball. How about one in the form of a tie-dye t-shirt? Mix the different dyes together and out comes a combination of cohesive color. It's been the perfect fit for Jenks this season.
"We've got a nice little mix of chemistry," said Jenks senior Bryson Pope. "The personalities come out when we play on the court."
At 22-1, the Trojans are a 6A favorite heading into the playoffs. A little bit of unconventional wisdom has gone a long way this season.
"We're probably not your typical team as you can tell with my tie dye shirt on," said Jenks senior Doug McKnight.
Doug McKnight's not your prototypical point guard. His 70's style has served him well - averaging 7 points and 5.5 assists per game.
"Coach was going to make me cut my hair but he said I could wear the headband instead," McKnight said.
"I don't know what he's doing with his hair thing," said Jenks senior Brian Brookey. "He's wearing what a girl usually wears with their hair."
It's worked so far - McKnight's fed plenty of points to team leader and TU commit Bryson Pope. As for a few fashion tips? Not so much.
"I like to keep it simple," Pope said. "Doug's a little more outgoing with the way he dresses."
"Maybe if he sported the tie dye he'd be getting 25 or 30," McKnight said. "You'd have to ask him about that."
"I don't know, maybe I should try it out with the playoffs coming up," Pope said.
