Tulsa County Seeing Decrease In Crime

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office is reporting a decline in crime in 2008, in figures released by Sheriff Stanley Glanz on Monday.

TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office is reporting a decline in crime in 2008.  In figures released by Sheriff Stanley Glanz on Monday, a total of 3,967 crimes were reported last year, which was a 5 percent drop from crime stats from 2007. 

In the news release, Glanz says several crime categories saw significant drops in 2008.  Sex crimes were down 34 percent and domestic violence reports were down 9 percent.

Also seeing drops were vandalism crimes, down 13 percent and auto thefts dropped in rural sections of Tulsa County by 32 percent.

Sheriff Stanley Glanz says 578,000 people live within Tulsa County, with about 34,300 residents residing in unincorporated areas of the county. 

A four year overall analysis of crimes according the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office shows a downward trend of reported crimes.
