EVANSTON, IL -- The 34th-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to top-ranked Northwestern in the second round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Evanston, Illinois. Tulsa falls to a 4-2 record of the season.
The Hurricane fell behind early dropping the doubles point with losses in all three positions. Alexandra Kichoutkin and Marta Marcinkowska lost to Lauren Lui and Maria Mosolova, 8-4, in the top position. Anastasia Erofeeva and Jie Zeng dropped their No. 2 doubles match to Elena Chernakova, 8-3, and Thalia Diaz-Barriga and Ewa Szatkowska lost to 26th-ranked Samantha Murray and Keri Robison, 8-6, in the No. 3 position.
In singles action, Alexandra Kichoutkin put up a tough fight in the first set against top-ranked Maria Mosolova, before losing the set 6-4, and the match, 6-4, 6-0. Marta Marcinkowska jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set against Lauren Lui in No. 4 singles, before Lui went on a 5-0 run to win the set 6-4, and the match 6-4, 6-1.
Tulsa is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they face Arkansas State and Seminole State in a double-header at the Case Tennis Center.
