TULSA, OK -- The freezing weekend is getting ready to give way to an icy work week.

Area stores are already bracing for heavy traffic as the crowds begin to pour in for supplies.

Local hardware stores said they are much more prepared this time around, compared to the December 2007 ice storm.

"We've got an abundance of ice melt, got our snow shovels here," Home Depot's Jimmy Gillespie said. "We've got plenty of firewood that just came in, got generators. We've also have back-up generators that we're holding on to in case it gets real bad, so we're definitely set. We're ready to go with this one."

News On 6 Meteorologist Dick Faurot says the ice storm could hit Monday, when precipitation will start falling as warm, moist air combines with cold surface air.

A cold rain is expected across the extreme southern counties, to freezing rain further north, to sleet with maybe even a few snowflakes mixed in for the more northern counties.

Parts of the area could see ice accumulations of an inch or more before Wednesday.  Widespread power outages can be expected where the freezing rain is heaviest. Bridges, overpasses and other elevated surfaces may ice over.
