Eastern Oklahoma Counties Issue Burn Ban

UNDATED - Several counties across eastern Oklahoma have now issued a burn ban.  County commissions from Haskell, Latimer and Wagoner counties have issued county wide burn bans. The burn bans will be in effect for seven days.

The boards issued the ban because they say extreme fire danger exists in their counties.

Under the burn ban, residents are not allowed to set fire to any forest, grass, range crop or wild lands, or to build a campfire, bonfire or to burn trash or other material that may cause a forest, grass, range, crop or other wild land fire.

Anyone who violates the burn ban will be guilty of a misdemeanor and will be subject to a fine of up to $500, imprisonment of up to one year, or both such fines and imprisonment.

If extreme fire danger conditions continue, subsequent burn bans may be issued.
