TULSA, OK -- A 22-year old Tulsa man remains in the hospital following an overnight chase down a Tulsa interstate highway.
The chase ended in a crash that sent Kevin Dean Copeland to a Tulsa hospital.
Tulsa Police say the chase started at 2:30 a.m. when an officer spotted a car driving erratically.
The officer tried to pull the car over near Admiral and Memorial, but the driver took off.
The driver led police on a chase in the westbound lanes of I-244. It ended moments later in a violent crash near I-244 and Delaware.
"Then he started losing control of the vehicle, where he struck the concrete median, which pushed him over into the guardrail on the north side of the road, came down an embankment, where he got ejected," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Terry Maurer.
The crash shut down the westbound lanes for about 2 ½ hours and westbound motorists had to be diverted off I-244 at the Delaware exit.
Copeland was taken by EMSA to a Tulsa hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
