SPERRY, OK -- An oil spill north of Sperry has been contained.
Sperry and Tulsa Fire were dispatched to the spill shortly after 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
Fire officials say the spill was in a small creek which flows under state Highway 11.
The creek is a tributary to Bird Creek.
Jim Waite with the State Corporation Commission says the spill is roughly 30 to 40 barrels. He says the oil came from a nearby tank battery. A value on a tank malfunctioned, allowing the tank to overflow.
A tank service has been contacted and will vacuum up the spilled oil
Waite says crews have contained the spill and are now in the process of cleaning up the mess.
Waite adds, at this point, the oil spill poses no danger or downstream contamination.
