FERNIE, British Columbia (AP) - Search teams have recovered the bodies of 7 snowmobilers, a day after they were swept away by avalanches in western Canada's backcountry.
An eighth man is missing and believed dead.
Police say the bodies were found late this afternoon as searchers plowed through avalanche debris near Fernie in British Columbia's Elk Valley, about 550 miles east of Vancouver.
Eleven snowmobilers were hit by back-to-back avalanches yesterday. Eight were buried, but three from the group clawed through the snow and reached safety.
Search efforts had been delayed until late today by the threat of more avalanches.
