CHANDLER, Okla. (AP) -- An 11-year-old boy has died at an Oklahoma City hospital after he was accidentally shot near Chandler.
Michael Contway's great-grandfather, Marvin Contway, says Michael died at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City about 8 p.m. on Monday.
Marvin Contway says Michael and his friend were handling a .22 caliber pistol that Michael received for Christmas when it fired, striking him in the forehead. It's not known which boy was holding the gun when it discharged, he said.
Michael was a fifth-grader in Davenport. He also played on school baseball and basketball teams.
Contway said he bought the boy a .22 rifle last year. This year, Michael was given a pistol of the same caliber from his parents.
The second boy's name hasn't been released.
