TULSA, OK -- Tulsa Public Schools investigates what could be a student suicide pact. Edison Preparatory School has suffered three suicides this year, one just this week.
TPS Superintendent Keith Ballard says they're following up on rumors that the students agreed verbally to kill themselves. And, until they find differently, they're treating it as a suicide pact.
"It is frightening to all of us. To parents and grandparents, I would say be in touch with your children. Be in touch with your children. Sometimes kids don't seem like they want to open up. Don't let those doors come closed. Talk with your children. Find out what's going on in their life. Know where they're going. Understand that this is a heightened crisis," said Dr. Keith Ballard.
The district is launching a suicide intervention program with the help of their campus police, Tulsa Police, and school counselors.
TPS is making counselors available to students and parents throughout the Christmas break.
