NORMAN, Okla. -- The deal is sealed. OU will head to Miami for the BCS National Championship Game against the Florida Gators on January 8. And, for fans who plan on joining the team in Miami, the time to book your reservations is now.
The team got word Sunday they were headed for Miami. Now, fans are geared up and working fast to make their travel plans for the biggest game of the college football season.
In his first press conference in Oklahoma after winning the Big 12 Championship, Coach Bob Stoops said he was proud of his team's efforts and they deserve to make it to the National Championship.
The game is expected to draw thousands of Oklahomans east, 1,500 miles to Miami, Florida.
Bently Hedges, the owner of Bentley Hedges Travel, has been busy at the office booking travel arrangements for his thousands of customers, OU fans who know to act fast.
"It's what I call ‘fast and dirty,' because 99 percent of the bookings are within the seven days of when it's announced," Hedges said.
Wait longer than a week, and your plans of watching the game live will be diminished to watching it from the couch.
"They need to select their programs and get it booked that way we know that this plane is full and you have that number of rooms in this hotel," Hedges said.
The Sooners aren't the only ones going out of town. The Cowboys are headed to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego and the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes are headed to the GMAC Bowl in Birmingham.
