UNDATED -- Two eastside schools have captured the last 12 6A state championships. The gold ball will once again go to one of those schools for the 13th straight time.
Union beat Midwest City 49-17 in Sand Springs Friday evening, while defending state champion Jenks took down previously unbeaten Mustang 35-20.
The Redskins had a 24-17 overtime win over the Trojans in week two, but Jenks defeated Union in last year's state championship game.
"We got so close last year," said Union coach Kirk Fridrich. "I told them if we got through this game they could play on a field where they could look at a gold ball and actually see it, not just dream about it."
Jenks puts them in the state title game for the 11th consecutive year. The Trojans have won nine of the last 12 titles, with Union claiming the other three.
"Jenks and Union again?" said Jenks coach Allan Trimble upon finding out they would be playing Union for the gold ball. "How exciting is that?"
