TULSA, OK -- Saint John Medical Center has proposed taking over the OSU Medical Center. The troubled downtown hospital is in danger of closing.

Hospital workers unveiled a giant banner with hundreds of signatures of support on Thursday. Workers say something needs to be done to protect the tens of thousands of people who rely on the hospital for their health care needs.

Mayor Kathy Taylor agrees. She says the city council will consider a resolution tonight to put OSUMC into a trust.

The mayor says that would help cut hospital costs, by making it tax-exempt and eligible for cheaper malpractice insurance.

"If the council passes that tonight, I'm gonna be right there to sign it immediately because time's running out," said Mayor Taylor.

Mayor Taylor says she doesn't know the details of Saint John's offer. But she says local state lawmakers are working to save the hospital from closing next month.
