OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Rumors are flying that London-based BP is poised to take over Oklahoma's Chesapeake Energy.
Chesapeake stock jumped $1.88 to $24.83 Thursday.
Chesapeake is the largest independent natural gas producer in the country.
BP is Europe's second-largest oil company.
The Wall Street Journal said last month, BP had expressed an interest the acquisition of gas properties from Chesapeake.
Neither company is commenting on the deal.
