TULSA, OK -- For the second time this year, Tulsa Teachers Credit Union has been the target of a cross-country scam.
In June, TTCU customers received text messages saying that their account had been closed due to unusual activity. The message told them to call a number and enter their information to re-activate the account.
Now, TTCU says the scam is back, but this time the credit union and its members were ready.
"We really believe that there's been a wide acceptance and education of the population cause we've not even experienced one of our members yet to call in and say that they've compromised their card.," said TTCU's Cristi Brooks-Cohea.
TTCU was able to get the scam's phone number shut down less than two hours after the first text. Officials at the credit union want members to know their accounts are safe and remind everyone that a bank or credit union will never ask for credit card numbers as verification.
