CLAREMORE, OK -- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a Claremore tattoo artist has come up with a way to help fight breast cancer. He's also using the opportunity to set a world tattooing record.
Madalyn DeLozier is getting ready for a pink ribbon tattoo.
"It's a good cause. The money that it's going for's a good cause," said Madalyn DeLozier.
Rich Wallace of Secret Ink at 314 S. Lynn Riggs Blvd. in Claremore is tattooing all comers as a fundraiser for the Komen Foundation and he may set a world record for tattoos in a 24 hour period.
The current record is 577. But, he says the record is really not important. He had to have a good reason to attempt it.
"The record doesn't mean anything to me, whether it happens or not. We had to find a cause," said Rich Wallace of Secret Ink.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and what family, he asks, hasn't been touched by cancer?
That's why Madalyn is getting inked. She has two breast cancer survivors in her family.
"That's the reason why I wanna get it for them," said Madalyn DeLozier.
The official tattoo for the fundraiser is the familiar outline of the ribbon with a two tone pink shading.
Rich says the thing has grown way beyond what he had originally hoped.
"We've got people from four states coming in," said Rich Wallace of Secret Ink.
The tattooing begins at noon on Saturday, and runs until noon on Sunday. The Komen contribution is $20.
Volunteers are needed to help with registration and crowds. You can get more information by calling Secret Ink Tattoo in Claremore at 918-341-4700.
