TULSA, OK -- The latest demolition began Monday to make room for the I-44 expansion. Crews began work to clear businesses on the east side of 51st and Harvard.
Club Tabu was the first business to go in this phase.
An entire shopping center will eventually be torn down; all to fix a highway officials say is just too dangerous.
"This stretch it's one of the highest accident prone areas on an interstate in Oklahoma. So we really need to come in, make these improvements and get it safer for the drivers," said ODOT Spokesperson Kenna Mitchell.
The department of transportation has already cleared all the homes needed for the expansion, but the widening design of the highway is still being discussed.
