Yesterday in the East, scattered showers and thunderstorms developed in the afternoon and evening hours across Florida. Rainfall amounts were over an inch in several locations. Another area of showers developed in southern New England into northern New Jersey. Rainfall amounts were less than half an inch there. By evening, rain showers pushed into western Michigan as well along a weak warm front. Skies were partly cloudy with dry conditions over the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Ohio Valley, and Deep South.

Across the central region, showers and thunderstorms developed across the Plains and Midwest throughout the day. A few severe thunderstorms were observed in Texas, where hail the size of golf balls fell in Imperial, TX. A wind gust in Fort Stockton, TX damaged a mobile home. Rainfall amounts over 1.50 inches were recorded. Showers and thunderstorms brought up to half an inch of rainfall to the Upper Midwest and northern Plains as well. No severe weather was reported there.

In the West, showers, thunderstorms, and snow showers tapered off over the Rockies, northern Great Basin, and Pacific Northwest throughout the day. An inch of rain fell in New Mexico, while snow showers were reported at the highest elevations of Colorado. Skies slowly cleared throughout the day in California, Desert Southwest, and Great Basin. Temperatures stayed cool over much of the region.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY:

In 1836, 11 inches of snow fell in Wilkes-Barre, PA with 26 inches of snow at Auburn, NY.

In 1941, a strong tornado hit the east side of Kansas City, MO. 4 people were killed, including 2 people who were in a house blown 700 feet then destroyed. 130 buildings were destroyed.

In 1990, a day after Rapid City, SD set at record high at 89 degrees, temperatures were freezing with snow showers.
