Man Arrested In Tombstone Case

Muskogee, OK -- Bond has been set for a 20-year-old Locust Grove man suspected of critically injuring a truck driver by dropping a cemetery vase from an overpass. That suspect was arrested late Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, the victim said he's glad an arrest has been made, but his fight to recover from injuries is far from over.

Gerald Webb still has swelling and near constant pain in his arm. He can raise it only slightly above his waist. Severe damage to nerves and muscle has also cost him movement in his fingers.

Since a concrete cemetery vase came crashing through the windshield of his truck, there have been constant doctor's visits and difficult physical therapy.

"Therapy is rough.  It's hard.  People who has been through it knows, it hurts," said Webb.

Webb was driving down the Cherokee Turnpike when the 38 pound vase was tossed over an overpass and onto his truck. It nearly killed Webb, who was in a coma for several days.

"I think it is senseless myself.  Anybody going out to hurt somebody, intentionally, it don't make no sense to me," said Webb.

Jeremy McGirt of Locust Grove was arrested Tuesday night and is being held in the Mayes County jail on a $25,000 bond.

Webb is glad an arrest has been made.

"It's not going to help me any.  But maybe it will teach somebody else that you can't do this and get away with it," said Webb.

Two teenagers are also suspected in the case and have been charged in juvenile court.

"I don't have no hard feelings toward them or nothing like that, but if they don't do something to them, it's just going to encourage somebody else to do the same thing," said Webb.

While the suspects go through the court process, Webb will still have at least another year of physical therapy and likely won't ever be able to work again.

If convicted, McGirt could spend up to 10-years in prison and face a $10,000 fine.
