New Website Brings Mothers Together

TULSA, OK -- Many moms say raising a child has its challenges. Now, a new website is bringing mothers together.

"Moms use to lean over the back fence. That's where they would share stories and swap advice," said Melanie Henry, co-founder of 918moms.com. "Well, today they're turning to the internet and they have to manage their busy lives."

918Moms.com is a social-networking website designed for moms, about moms, by moms who live in the 918 area code.

Creators Melanie Henry and Deedra Determan saw the need for an easy way moms can get the answers they need when it comes to raising their children.

"Whether they're a working mom, whether they're a stay at home mom, everyone has their own set of challenges that they face," said Henry.

From picking a pediatrician, finding the best daycare or just connecting with other moms, the site has it all. It's most popular feature is the Forums where moms can ask others for advice on everything from education and childcare to entertainment and exercise.

"I remember bringing my daughter home as a newborn and in the middle of the night having a million questions; calling my mom to find out how do I get her to sleep? She's not eating, all those things. It'd be so nice if I would have had a one-stop website where I could go to for other moms, not moms in L.A. but moms in this area," said Deedra Determan, co-founder of 918moms.com.

918Moms.com is free for all users and it's updated often, so everything mom needs is just a click away.

"Rather than reading all the books that are out there, it's a great resource to have, but you want to talk to other moms that have been down that road before," said Determan. "It provides comfort. It makes your job easier and you can make a friend along the way."
