A long-time restaurant some thought lost to Tulsa is now back in business. The News On 6's Ashli Sims reports an historic building, just a few blocks from the BOK Center, is now home to Casa Laredo.
The margaritas are flowing, plates of enchiladas are steaming, and tables are full of folks snacking on chips and salsa. Casa Laredo is back and it is almost enough to bring co-owner Edith Rojas to tears.
Casa Laredo said adios to its old location in Brookside after almost four decades, back in 2006. It meant disappointment for Shiew family who'd been eating at that location for years.
"We were sad. Very sad. They told us they were reopening. We couldn't wait. Took ‘em a little longer than they thought, but we're thrilled to be here," said diner David Shiew.
"Well, we knew it would reopen somewhere. We're loyal patrons so we just hoped it would be opening up as quick as possible," added customer Steve Heidebrecht.
There were plans to move to 6th and Peoria, but the restaurant finally landed in downtown Tulsa.
"Really happy, cause now we can come here again," said Emily Shiew.
While its signature mural is gone, Casa Laredo's new building has the same homey feel.
"To come back to see us. They're going to find it like home, like always here," said co-owner Edith Rojas.
And, its new neighbor, the BOK Center, promises to be good for business.
"I think it's going to be great. I think with the BOK Center they're going to get lots of traffic. Lots of new customers. And, I think once you try it you'll be back," said David Shiew.
The Rojas hope the new location will have the same popularity as the old.
Casa Laredo opens to the public on Thursday. It will serve lunch and dinner six days a week.
