(AP) MEXICO CITY -

Former Hurricane Hernan has weakened to a tropical depression far out in the Pacific.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Hernan's winds have fallen to about 35 mph (55 kph), and the system is expected to continue weakening as it moves westward and even farther out to sea.

By Tuesday, Hernan was located about 1,330 miles (2,140 kilometers) east of Hawaii.

Hernan was once a major Category 3 hurricane. It was downgraded to a tropical storm on Monday. Storms are classified as hurricanes when their winds reach 74 mph (119 kph) or more.
