MIAMI (AP) - Tropical Storm Hernan continues to swirl in the Pacific far off Mexico's coast Friday.

But the National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm could strengthen and become a hurricane later in the day.

The storm's maximum sustained winds were near 65 mph at 5 a.m. EDT Friday.

Hernan's center was located about 800 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico. The storm was moving toward the west, farther out to sea, at about 13 mph.

Hernan is the eighth named storm of the Pacific hurricane season.
