The University of Oklahoma is among the top spenders in sports recruiting, according to a recent study by the Chronicle of Higher Education. The report says the Sooners spent more than $1.2 million during 2006-07 school year, a 47% change from 2001-02 when the university spent $763,900. While OU ranks 14th on the list, The University of Tennessee at Knoxville took the top spot, expending $2,005,700.
The more than $11.5 million the Big 12 Conference spent on recruiting during the 2006-07 school year ranks only second to the SEC, whose schools shelled out $13,129,700.
While Oklahoma State University's women's recruiting costs made up 24% of expenditures, Cowgirl Athletics ranked 16th among Division-I women's recruiting spending, with $147,200.
