Two Firefighters Suffer From Heat Exhaustion

The severe heat was a forceful match for Tulsa firefighters on Saturday. Two of them were treated for heat exhaustion after fighting a house fire in South Tulsa near 9900 S. 100^th East Avenue. Fire Chief Martin Noah says with all that bunker gear, fire crews are working in temperatures exceeding 130 degrees. That, mixed with a scorching 400 degree fire can be deadly.

"When the guys are inside we try to keep them in no longer than 10-15 minutes at a time. We pull them out. We get them cooled down," said Tulsa Fire Department Chief Martin Noah. "Have them take their bunker gear off. Get them hydrated, then we don't let them go back in unless their blood pressure gets down to a certain level."

Fire crews were able to put the house fire out. They say it started in a bedroom. No one was hurt.
