Dog Adopts Tiger Cubs

A dog at a Montgomery County, Kansas zoo has adopted three tiger cubs abandoned by their mother.

Isabella is a one-year Golden Retriever. She has become the unlikely mother figure to three white Bengal tiger cubs at the Safari Zoological Park in Caney, Kansas.

The cubs' mother, Sassy, gave birth on Sunday, but stopped caring for her cubs the next day. So Isabella, still producing milk from her recent pregnancy, was a willing substitute mother.

"The timing couldn't have been more perfect, to have these babies just weaning and then the tiger cubs being born. And, we thought about it and said let's try that, and (she) took right to it, right off the bat," says Safari Zoological Park founder Tom Harvey.

The Harveys say it has been a success and a blessing for both the cubs and for Isabella, who licks, cleans and feeds the adorable cubs.
