Officer Dragged By Vehicle Shoots Driver

An officer investigating a report of a naked man sleeping in a parked vehicle resulted in an officer involved shooting.

NORMAN, Okla. -- An officer investigating a report of a naked man sleeping in a parked vehicle Saturday afternoon resulted in an officer involved shooting.

Master Police Officer John Terry responded to the call shortly before noon, and while en route was told that the vehicle in question was reported as stolen from Calera.

When he approached the parked vehicle at 201 S. Creekdale Drive, an altercation occurred between Officer Terry and the suspect.

The suspect drove away, dragging the officer with him police said.

Terry was able to draw his service weapon and fire, striking the suspect once in the chest.
Both the suspect and the officer were transported to Norman Regional Hospital, where Terry was treated for injuries to his arms and released.

The suspect's injuries were evaluated and he was subsequently admitted to the hospital for further treatment. He has not been identified at this time.

An investigation of the incident is continuing under the direction of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Terry, an eight year veteran of the Norman Police Department, has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the conclusion of the investigation.
