The City of Tulsa has more time to strike a deal to bring the Tulsa Drillers to downtown.  The city's exclusive negotiating time with the Drillers was set to run out on Tuesday, but that was extended to next month because the deal wasn't finished.

The Tulsa City Council approved a property tax to pay for the stadium, under pressure from the mayor to meet the Tuesday deadline.

"We got to get the land, the financing, we've got to get the lease signed and get it all approved by the council, but it didn't make sense to go to the next step until we knew we could pay for the ballpark," said Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor.

Mayor Taylor says the next deadline is August 9th, when the option expires on a backup piece of property for the ballpark.  A site in Greenwood was picked, but the East Village is the second option.
