Fatal Accident Claims One

A massive backup Wednesday afternoon virtually shut down the eastbound lanes of I-44.

The traffic jam began after a wreck that killed a 22-year old man.  The car he was riding in collided with a semi on I-44 just east of the I-244 split. 

The accident happened around one o'clock. 

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say three people were in the car that was going at a high rate of speed when it hydroplaned across the median and slammed in the oncoming semi.  The man who died was ejected from the backseat; two other people were rushed to a Tulsa hospital.   

The driver of the semi was not injured. However, one of the fuel tanks on the truck ruptured which required a hazardous material clean-up.
