The Army makes a special push to get Oklahoma soldiers back to the home front in time to celebrate Independence Day with their families. Tulsa International Airport has been the scene of many happy reunions.
The News On 6 was there when Richard Goforth and his family welcomed home his son, Andrew, after 11 months in Iraq. Specialist Goforth didn't expect to make it home until Monday, but the Army's extra effort got him home for a true 4th of July celebration.
"I wanna have my mom's spaghetti. And, I want to have real food. The Army food's great. They tell me it's nourishing, but I don't believe it," said Army Specialist Andrew Goforth.
"We're gonna have a big fireworks celebration and hot dogs this afternoon over at his uncle's house and I've got a special present for him that I've built: a black powder rifle. I've been working on it all year," said Richard Goforth.
Goforth heads back to Iraq in 18 days.
