Police served six search warrants on Thursday in their effort to find who shot Lori Kastner to death Wednesday in her bedroom. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports detectives are being pretty tight-lipped about the case, but what they're not saying is interesting.
They haven't released a suspect description, there doesn't appear to be forced entry into the Kastner's home and one of the warrants was for financial records.
Detectives say they are looking into every aspect of the account John Kastner told them about an intruder coming into their home Wednesday morning, killing his wife and shooting him in the hand. They say it's a slow, methodical process.
"This isn't a straight-forward, one-trigger pull case. We look at things that happen before the actual violent incident and things that continue after," said TPD Sgt. Mike Huff.
One warrant they served was back at the crime scene and detectives carried out sacks of potential evidence, but wouldn't discuss what they found. They also refused to comment on a suspect or suspect description.
They did respond to a user posting on NewsOn6.com that says everyone in the Kastner family took and passed polygraphs.
"That is absolutely incorrect," said Sgt. Huff.
Detectives say the case has become complex and things like subpoenas and search warrants take a lot longer in real life than they do on TV. They say it's all about finding the truth and building a strong case against the killer.
"Has to be done correctly so it stands up in court and that's what we're concentrating on right now," said Sgt. Huff.
They plan to work on the case around the clock, through the weekend and into next week.
Lori Kastner's service is Friday afternoon. Friends say she'll be remembered as a bright attorney, devoted mother and active member of this community.
