Tulsa police are questioning a suspect who is accused of stealing a van with three children inside and then sexually assaulted one of the kids. The News On 6's Chris Wright reports police believe the carjacking and kidnapping was a random crime, and they desperately want to get this suspect off the streets as soon as possible.

Shortly after midnight, a mother of three arrived at Midnight Sun with her kids, ages eight, three, and one. There were also two teenagers in the car. Police say she went inside to tan and left the teens to watch her kids.

When she was finished, she came back out to the van and the teens went into the salon. That's when, police say, the carjacker appeared, told her to get out of the vehicle and took off with the children still inside.

"We don't know if the target was the children, or was it just to have a ride," said TPD Officer Leland Ashley.

Officer Ashley says in the hour and a half before police spotted the silver van, the suspect did sexually assault the 8-year-old girl.

He was then seen near 51st and Union, and led TPD on a high speed chase before running into spike strips laid down by police. The suspect ran to a nearby apartment complex and has not been found.

TPD believes that at some point, while the children were in the van, he stopped at another apartment complex and spoke with a woman. They now hope she or anyone else with information will come forward.

"You've got a child involved, you've got something that appears to be random, we've got an individual out there who will attack children, attack individuals at night, we want to get them off the street," said Officer Ashley.

Police are looking for a white man, between the ages of 25 and 30. He is described as thin, six feet tall, with a shaved head and tattoo on either his right or left shoulder.

Because the carjacking and the chase happened near 61st and memorial, police believe he may live nearby.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS.
