We hear a lot about the acts that are coming to the new BOK Center, but what about the workers who are bringing the building to life? They're stuck in the summer heat where it's uncomfortable and sometimes even dangerous.
The News On 6's Rick Wells reports a former nurse is dispensing relief out the back of her pickup truck.
A couple of hours in the hot sun sends workers toward the back of Gwen Cobb's pickup, for a little relief.
She's loaded with all sorts of snacks, cookies, chips and drinks.
"My specialty is iced Power Aid, basically I freeze 'em," said Cobb.
It's like buying a big snow cone in a bottle. She started this in May of last year when it was so hot, she knew some of the workers down there and they were struggling.
"They asked me one day if I could put some drinks in the back of my truck and bring it down to 'em," said Cobb.
She says she's been there almost every day since. If the guys are there working, they need something to eat and drink.
"I started out with just chips and drinks," said Cobb.
Then as the guys asked for more she added it.
"They like their junk food," said Cobb.
She's got candy bars in the freezer cause they melt. The health department told her she'd have to be able to keep the hot food hot and the cold food cold so she beefed up the battery power.
Cobb extends the guys who need it, a little credit.
"Sometimes they don't have the money and they need food and water," said Cobb.
Says she'll keep bringing the drinks and the snacks as long as they need them. Safety regulations keep her outside the fence. She's got a hard hat, but steel toed boots wouldn't go with her outfit.
